Teaching Creative commons to students is something that I am a bit afraid of but know that is necessary. I am right now teaching a digital photography class that I think would be the most opportune moment to test my hand at teaching this. Having the students create their own CC will show them that they are artist and that sharing ones work for others to use is a great thing. Sharing ideas or works of art will enhance their understanding of what it means as well as how it can be used.
To me personally the laws and rules behind borrowing and sharing are often so blurred. There are specific ways to share and site things as to make sure you do not run into trouble. With creative commons it is an easy way to say this is ok to use in your works and for the user to know it is safe. Where I struggle is the proper way to site things as to not run into that trouble. If I struggle with this I am sure that my 2nd graders will as well. The class I am teaching now is one with the older grades is going to be my moment to shine with whole topic!

Mission, Vision, and Standards
It took me a lot longer than I thought it would to create a mission and vision. The hard part for me was the narrowing it down to keep it simple, short, and precise. I have a lot I want to portray in my few words and those words need to speak for me as an introduction to what I plan to do with my knowledge and work. This is a lot to accomplish in a few words and sentences. I did notice when reading others in this cohort that many of us teachers have the same mission and visions with merely different words. What was nice to see was that students were at the center.
The standards I have chosen to work with are the NETS ISTE standards and they make it very easy to show knowledge and understanding. These standards are very detailed as they have bullet points that describe what needs to be understood and displayed for each. This makes it much easier for educators to display their learning and knowledge of these standards.
Finally, our readings this week talked about Blogs as online portfolios. This seems like an easy route for students to use to show what they have learned and are learning. The main point I thought was so interesting was the discussion about how there are portfolios that are For learning and those of learning. For learning means the portfolio is developed to strengthen ones understanding and enhance learning. Of learning means that you are simply displaying ones works to prove that learning has occurred. There is a huge difference here and the intent of the portfolio is in the balance if you choose the wrong route.

The Portfolio Build
It is finally time to start thinking about building our portfolios and that means that everything we have learned and done up to this point is about to come full circle. The process seems like a long one, but with a template and a few weeks to do this I am sure we will have a solid start!
In setting the template used with the MEIT program things will be done in an organized manor. It is nice to not have to worry about creating the basics of the site as that is already done for us. That seems like it would be just another step that would cause more unneeded stress.
The final piece that is extra important to me about this process is that I am using this program as evidence for my PDP for the PI-34 requirement for my teaching license. This portfolio will include my all of my work and talk about meetings with peers and instructors. Overall this will make getting my masters easy and keeping my teaching license even easier!
